Francisco Peguero Up, Christian to DL

That catch Justin Christian made Wednesday night in LA was about as good as they get, but it will be costing the Giants outfielder at least the next 15 days to recover from.

The Giants made a roster move prior to Thursday's game with the Braves, sending Christian to the 15-day DL with a sprained wrist and calling up Francisco Peguero from the Fresno Grizzlies to take his spot. Andrew Baggarly ranked the solid-hitting outfielder 5th among Giants prospects heading into the 2011 season after Peguero hit a combined .337 the previous three seasons with A San Jose and AA Richmond. This year though, the 24 year-old has taken a step back, and is hitting just .272 with a .691 OPS. He does have 68 RBI and has 10 triples on the season, but the one stat that is really disappointing for him is the 1 in the stolen base column. For a guy who had 40 steals in 2010, that's a major drop off right there, and as far as I know, there's nothing limiting him physically. So, on one hand there's the great production he showed pre-2012 with a 2010 Futures game appearance, but on the other hand, you have the guy who's largely disappointed in Fresno this year (sans the RBI total).

I've always liked Peguero, and I too ranked him inside the top-10 in our annual prospect ranking as well. I also don't mind him getting a shot in this situation. Christian was simply not getting the job done at the plate and I don't think Peguero can fair any worse. He's a good defender, and if he can hit for some average and display some of that speed we know he has, he very well could become the Giants regular left fielder. It may not be an answer in the long run, but at least it's an attempt.

Peguero was good with San Jose. Saw him play many of time down there. Don't really get why his average is so low but maybe he turns it on with the Giants.

What's this about the Dodgers getting Adrian Gonzalez though? Do they just get to go out and get whoever they want now? Unbelieveable.

Gregor Blanco has been pretty good vs. the right handers after melky got suspended though. I do agree that the giants need a upgrade but blanco was good at the start of the season maybe he can get back to that?

Giants Notes: Lincecum Signs, Ross to Boston

Well, even though I touched on it a little bit in our last post, I haven't really had a chance to get my thoughts out on the new Lincecum deal since he and the Giants agreed earlier in the week. Also, on the other end of things, the Giants missed out on shoring up their outfield by letting Cody Ross sign in Boston for only $3 million in 2012. First off, obviously, wanted to talk a bit about Lincecum. I've already said here that I didn't expect him to sign a long-term deal that takes him through free agency, but it doesn't mean he wants to leave San Francisco like everyone is suspecting. I mean, if I were Lincecum, I'd probably do the same thing, even if I planned on eventually signing with the Giants long-term. Why take a chance at mitigating your value to just sign a deal? Granted, a 5 year, $100 million deal isn't anything to sneeze at, in this market, if he were a free agent, Lincecum could probably easily command a 8 year, $200 million deal. If he could get ...

SF Giants' 2024 season preview and predictions

We've reached the finish line of spring training and it's time for the games to start mattering. The Giants are a much different team than the one we saw report to camp six weeks ago. Did they add enough over the winter and spring to catapult them into playoff contention? What are some keys to success this season? We'll get into all that and more in the 2024 season preview. A winter that started out a little slow and concerning for Giants' fans, really came into form in the spring and was capped beautifully by a Blake Snell signing just over a week before opening day. The Giants are indeed a much improved team from the one we saw in 2023, just how much better they become will rely a lot on three big things. Three Keys to 2024 1. Health Of course, you can say this about every team in baseball and in any sport. In order for them to reach their end-season goals, they'll have to have had stayed relatively healthy throughout the summer. But for the Giants I've highl...

WORLD SERIES: Giants Move Up 2-0 on Texas

PreGame After taking game one in a surprising slug-fest , the Giants look to go up 2-0 on the Rangers in the World Series on Thursday night. The Giants are sending out Matt Cain, a guy who I'm sure every Giants' fan is pretty confident in. He'll be a opposed by C.J. Wilson, who's in his first year as a full-time starter, but has been brilliant in the role. He did struggle his last time out though, so hopefully the Giants can get to him early and get into his head a bit. I'm going to do something I've never done here on this unique occasion, and sort of do an in-game post. updating this post every time I feel I have something to add. So go Giants, and be sure to check back throughout the game, and after, to vent or whatever! As long as Matt Cain keeps rolling, and the Giants keep coming up with those clutch 2-out hits, we should be OK. Texas has that high-powered offense that can score in a hurry, as we saw last night, so the Giants cannot let down and have to t...
