Giants Cruise to 5th Straight Win

The Giants came back to win their 5th straight game on Monday night and have won 10 of their last 12 games. Bruce Bochy has been mixing young players into the lineup on a more consistent basis and it's giving the team some life. The latest youngster to step up and contribute big has been Kevin Frandsen. Frandsen hasn't gotten consistent playing time this season, but has been getting some starts in August and is delivering. The team has gone 7-0 since August 13th in games which Frandsen has started. During that stretch he has gone 7-21 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI. He was a big component in Monday nights come from behind victory coming up with a clutch, 2-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning that gave the Giants a 3 run lead. It's too bad they couldn't have came up with some offense earlier to support another brilliant outing by Barry Zito. After a horrific first half with his new club, Zito needs to have a very strong finish over the last part of the season in order to avoid being absolutely roasted by the fans and media over the winter. He has gone 7+ innings in his last 3 starts and he looks like a completely different pitcher now than what he showed in the first half.

The Giants also completed the Matt Morris-Rajai Davis deal on Monday. The team selected 21-year old right-hander Steve MacFarland who has spent most of the season in relief with Pittsburg's single A affiliate. I don't know anything about MacFarland, but I did look at his numbers and they show he is wild, but also has the ability to strike batters out. He's struck out over a batter an inning this year, but also has a WHIP of 1.61 which is why his era is at 4.80 and also why he has yet to make it out of single A. I already like how the trade has turned out for the Giants as Rajai Davis has been a huge part of the teams success this month and even if MacFarland never makes it out of the minor leagues, I have no complaints.

Well, to be fair, my mom could probably beat the Rockies more often than not.

You might still be selling your mom short there!

the rockies would do well for themselves to not lose 3 of 4 to the Pirates during a "playoff run"

The Rockies aren't going to make a "playoff run" but they're improved. It's been a while since they finished the season with a .500 or better record and it looks like they may finally get back to that this year.

they would be either 1.5 or 2 games above where they are right now had they not blown that series; putting them only 4 games back going into a series with the nationals. thats why i put it in quotes; that and i hear that phrase from the awful newspapers here constantly.

Great site!
i’m looking forward to read some more…
Cheers.

Yeah, this is the best they've done in a while, it's easy to see why the media there is magnifying things. Hey, anything can happen, I didn't expect them to go this long with the record they have, but the playoffs are a long shot.

The Giants have won 10 of 12...but they are still 13 games out and have no young talent. In 2017, people will start worrying about the Giants again.

2000 was the last year the Rockies were over .500 and only by two games then. 1995 was their only season to be in the playoffs when they won the wildcard.

I look for Giants to focus on younger players next year. Benjie Molina leads the Giants in RBI's with 74 which is 10 more than Bonds of course has far fewer at bats. Bonds leads in slugging with .588 percentage with Klesko second with .430 and Randy Winn of all people third in slugging at .420 with Feliz fourth at .410....No player on the team is hitting over .300. Vizquel is hitting .248 his second lowest batting average since 1991.

Giants Still Need Infield Help

On Saturday, the Giants finalized a 2 year contract extension with Freddy Sanchez, who they acquired in July for Tim Alderson. The new deal for Sanchez will pay him 12 million over the next 2 seasons instead of 8.5 million for just 2010, which was his option for 2010. I've voiced my disappointment in Sanchez a few times here since the Giants dealt for him over the summer. He wasn't able to stay on the field full time to help this club with their run at the NL Wild Card, and even when he was in there, he didn't seem to make much of an impact in th e lineup. Now, I wasn't necessarily hoping the Giants would cut ties with Sanchez (they probably would have had to pay 4 million or so to buy him out), just didn't think he was worth upwards of 10 million dollars, and would have liked to see the Giants pursue someone like Orlando Hudson with that money. The Giants already have an infielder who's being paid about 3-4 times what his play over the last 2 seasons would indi...

WORLD SERIES: Giants Move Up 2-0 on Texas

PreGame After taking game one in a surprising slug-fest , the Giants look to go up 2-0 on the Rangers in the World Series on Thursday night. The Giants are sending out Matt Cain, a guy who I'm sure every Giants' fan is pretty confident in. He'll be a opposed by C.J. Wilson, who's in his first year as a full-time starter, but has been brilliant in the role. He did struggle his last time out though, so hopefully the Giants can get to him early and get into his head a bit. I'm going to do something I've never done here on this unique occasion, and sort of do an in-game post. updating this post every time I feel I have something to add. So go Giants, and be sure to check back throughout the game, and after, to vent or whatever! As long as Matt Cain keeps rolling, and the Giants keep coming up with those clutch 2-out hits, we should be OK. Texas has that high-powered offense that can score in a hurry, as we saw last night, so the Giants cannot let down and have to t...

Giants Notes: Lincecum Signs, Ross to Boston

Well, even though I touched on it a little bit in our last post, I haven't really had a chance to get my thoughts out on the new Lincecum deal since he and the Giants agreed earlier in the week. Also, on the other end of things, the Giants missed out on shoring up their outfield by letting Cody Ross sign in Boston for only $3 million in 2012. First off, obviously, wanted to talk a bit about Lincecum. I've already said here that I didn't expect him to sign a long-term deal that takes him through free agency, but it doesn't mean he wants to leave San Francisco like everyone is suspecting. I mean, if I were Lincecum, I'd probably do the same thing, even if I planned on eventually signing with the Giants long-term. Why take a chance at mitigating your value to just sign a deal? Granted, a 5 year, $100 million deal isn't anything to sneeze at, in this market, if he were a free agent, Lincecum could probably easily command a 8 year, $200 million deal. If he could get ...
