With the official halfway point in the Major League Baseball season right around the corner, and the all-star game approaching, here is my opinion on how the 30-man all-star rosters should fill out:

I know, tell me about it. Why don't you put Alfonso Soriano in there to represent the Cubs? He's been on fire as of late. He's gotten off to a slow start but I think he should make it. I'd put some room in there for him... maybe Dunn? Bay? Ehh..tough decision for me...

Yeah, the bad thing about Youkilis is that he plays 1st base and there are more deserving players who will be chosen as first basemen out there. Yes he's hitting .331, but look at what Ortiz and Morneau are doing! You can't leave those guys out.

Could someone tell me why Bonds should be on the All-Star team? Is it just because the game is in San Francisco this year? All the baggage aside, is he an All-Star or is this just a case of a "name player" being added?

This looks pretty good, however I'd like to know which pitchers you'd have starting in the 1st. I'm iffy on Santana being on the roster, though i agree with the other starters.

As much fun as a Peavy/Haren match up would be, I think it's more likely to see Beckett starting the game for the AL. I've heard a lot of people online (including a major league scout) saying that Beckett is pitching better than anyone in the majors. Apparently not everyone's thrilled by Haren's phenomenal numbers.

Haren has half the era, more strikeouts, a better whip and only 1 less win than Beckett.. If he doesn't start for the AL it will be a shame. It shouldn't even be a debate.

I agree. I'm really pulling for him to start the game, but I don't have much faith in the selection process.

SF Giants' 2024 season preview and predictions

 We've reached the finish line of spring training and it's time for the games to start mattering. The Giants are a much different team than the one we saw report to camp six weeks ago. Did they add enough over the winter and spring to catapult them into playoff contention? What are some keys to success this season? We'll get into all that and more in the 2024 season preview. Giants Still Need Infield Help

On Saturday, the Giants finalized a 2 year contract extension with Freddy Sanchez, who they acquired in July for Tim Alderson. The new deal for Sanchez will pay him 12 million over the next 2 seasons instead of 8.5 million for just 2010, which was his option for 2010. I've voiced my disappointment in Sanchez a few times here since the Giants dealt for him over the summer. He wasn't able to stay on the field full time to help this club with their run at the NL Wild Card, and even when he was in there, he didn't seem to make much of an impact in th e lineup. Now, I wasn't necessarily hoping the Giants would cut ties with Sanchez (they probably would have had to pay 4 million or so to buy him out), just didn't think he was worth upwards of 10 million dollars, and would have liked to see the Giants pursue someone like Orlando Hudson with that money.
